Product safety & recalls
How we check what we sell, how to use it safely, and what happens if an item is recalled.
On this page
1How we check what we sell
Before we list an item, we:
- search the UK government's product recalls and safety alerts for the brand, the model and the type of product;
- check the item carries the safety markings the law requires, such as the UKCA or CE mark, and the maker's details;
- check new items come with the maker's instructions and safety information in English. Open Box, Ex-Display and Verified Used items may come without the printed instructions: the product page lists what you will receive, and if you ask, we help you find the maker's instructions online;
- check, clean and test Open Box, Ex-Display and Verified Used items, as described on each product page.
If an item does not pass these checks, we do not sell it.
2Items we import ourselves
Some items we bring into the UK ourselves. For these we are the importer, and we take on the duties the law gives importers: checking the maker's safety documents and markings, keeping records, and acting straight away on any safety problem.
3Using your items safely
- Follow the instructions that come with the item, or the maker's instructions.
- Charge items with the charger and cable supplied, or a suitable one from a known brand, on a hard surface away from anything that could burn.
- Stop using any item, charger or battery that is damaged, swollen, unusually hot or smells of burning.
- Keep small items, such as earbuds, ear tips and cables, and button or coin batteries away from young children. A swallowed button battery can cause serious injury within hours: if you think a child has swallowed one, go to A&E straight away.
- Never point a laser, such as a presentation remote, at anyone's eyes.
- Do not use an item in water or rain unless its product page says it is water resistant, and only to the level stated.
4If something goes wrong
If an item seems unsafe, stop using it, unplug it if you can, and contact us at customerservice@multibargain.com, or through our Contact page, with your order number. We arrange its return at our cost and look into it, and we report any safety risk to Trading Standards, as the law requires.
Your rights if an item is faulty are in Faults & warranty.
5Recalls
If an item we sold is recalled, or there is a safety notice about it, we contact everyone who bought it, using their order details, and explain what to do. This does not affect your other rights.
You can also check the UK government's list of product recalls and safety alerts at gov.uk/product-safety-alerts-reports-recalls.
6Old electricals and batteries
Please recycle old electrical items and batteries rather than putting them in your bin. How and where is in Environment & recycling.
